The Baltimore Ravens’ passing game took a bit of a hit this offseason.
Despite wide receivers Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman returning this offseason, losing athletic pass-catching tight end Isaiah Likely via free agency to former head coach John Harbaugh and the New York Giants could be a significant blow for quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ vertical passing game.
Fortunately, the NFL Draft may offer an ideal replacement.
Over at ESPN, NFL analyst Peter Schrager released his latest mock draft projection, linking the Ravens to Oregon standout, and prolific pass-catching tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the first round.
“What better way to show Lamar Jackson and Ravens fans that the Baltimore offense isn’t going anywhere without offensive coordinator Todd Monken or former TE2 Isaiah Likely than by drafting a supreme talent like Sadiq?” Schrager wrote . “One of the stars of the combine, Sadiq ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, the fastest time for a tight end since at least 2003. He also caught 51 passes last season, the most ever by an Oregon tight end. Mark Andrews is back in Baltimore, but he’s now in his 30s, and this offense likes having multiple impact players at the position.”
Sadiq offers outrageous athleticism at the tight end position, and reliable hands as a weapon in the passing game, which could make him the ideal weapon to maximize the impact Derrick Henry makes as a punisher in the ground game and the big plays over the top created by Flowers and Bateman in the vertical passing game.
If Sadiq is available when the Ravens go on the clock during the NFL Draft, he could be far too enticing to pass up, and be the kind of player who significantly elevates Jackson’s game.
