As we inch closer to the NFL Draft, we at Yardbarker are breaking down each team's odds for their first draft selection, a market available for many — though some states do not have the option.
Two of the NFC West's teams (San Francisco and Los Angeles) do not own a first-round pick, and thus have no odds available for their first selection. That doesn't mean this isn't an important draft for the division, as the other half in Arizona and Seattle both have top-five selections.
Odds are courtesy of DraftKings.
As you can see by running back at +4500 being the fourth-best odds, the choice is quite clearly between defensive line, corner and OL.
Arizona is an interesting position, and we don't fully expect the Cardinals to be selecting here when it's all said and done. There are multiple scenarios that could cause a team to want to hop Indianapolis at No. 4 in order to select a quarterback, at which point we are sure Arizona would be all ears.
This Arizona team feels far from competing again, and we'd be extremely surprised if they move too far down the board. There are three high-impact defensive linemen in this class in Will Anderson, Jalen Carter and Tyree Wilson.
It's the favorite, but for good reason. The Cardinals need to invest in their defensive line or they are never going to get on the right path. No matter where they select, we prefer that position to be their first pick.
The pick: Defensive lineman (-175)
The Seahawks are in a prime position to grab one of those stud defensive linemen we just mentioned above, and we get the -250 price here. There's next to no value in loading up a bet at that price.
We love sprinkling on quarterback to Seattle here at No. 5, particularly if someone like Anthony Richardson is on the board. Geno Smith had a good year, yes, winning Comeback Player of the Year.
However, Smith is 32. He signed an extension this past offseason, but for all intents and purposes, it shakes out to a one-year deal. It seems unwise for the Seahawks to think that Smith is going to bring them a Super Bowl, and if that's not the goal, then what are we doing here?
Seattle would be an ideal spot for someone like Richardson, a prospect many agree needs time to develop and work on his mechanics. He can sit behind Smith for a year and be in a position to take over in 2024. Do not sleep on Seattle in the QB market here.
The pick: Quarterback (+275)
