NFL executive has a worrisome prediction for Cowboys rookie's career

As expected, the Dallas Cowboys made sure to address their -- many -- defensive needs in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Team owner/GM Jerry Jones wanted to give new defensive coordinator Christian Parker the weapons he needed to turn the defense around, and he did some extensive shopping.

Unsurprisingly, a lot has been said of Caleb Downs, who was a projected top-3 pick at one point, and the polarizing decision to take Malachi Lawrence in the first round.

However, an unnamed NFL executive was more concerned about Devin Moore, their fourth-round pick. Talking to The Athletic's Mike Sando, he expressed serious doubts about his durability.

Cowboy's Devin Moore may not have a long career

“The defense was a sore spot, and they addressed a lot of pieces,” an exec told Sando. “Devin Moore’s injury history is concerning. He will not have a long career. But if you are going to take a risk, take it with a talented guy at a premium position that gets heavily paid in the market. If you get a starter or even a third corner, that is worth it.”

Talent and skill-wise, Moore is, by all means, an NFL player. That said, he has dealt with major injuries for most of his collegiate career.

So far, he's missed time with shoulder, back and groin injuries, including the beginning of the draft process.

He has the physical tools to be a difference-maker at the position, and with another young CB like Shavon Revel Jr. also on the team, the Cowboys could afford to roll the dice on him.

That said, the fact that there are league-wide concerns about how long he will be able to play before he's taken a single snap should be a major red flag for the Cowboys.

The game is always better when the best players are on the field, and Moore has Pro-Bowl potential when healthy. Whether he'll be able to stay available, however, may not be up to him.
