A Wednesday report claimed that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman could be looking to land a first-round draft pick, a second-round choice AND a player in return for mercurial wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Such a price tag seemingly has some believing that Roseman isn't all that serious about trading Brown anytime soon.
For a piece published on Thursday morning, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom revealed that there's a feeling around the league that the Eagles haven't "given up on finding ways to make Brown feel better about being a part of their offense" after he repeatedly voiced his frustrations this past season.
"I don’t think Howie wants to move him," one unnamed general manager said about Brown while speaking with La Canfora. "The price doesn’t match the player at this stage of his career."
During the scouting combine, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni referred to Brown as "a great teammate" and "a great football player." Brown signed a three-year, $96M extension with $84M in guaranteed money back in the spring of 2024, so Roseman has leverage regarding talks with other clubs about the 28-year-old's services.
Additionally, Brown hasn't gone out of his way to publicly make it known he won't play another meaningful snap for the Eagles. In short, NFL teams aren't buying what Roseman may be trying to sell in the closing days of winter.
"Howie’s not exactly a motivated seller here," a different executive told La Canfora about Brown.
Multiple reporters have mentioned that the Eagles may wait until June 1 to finalize any trade involving Brown for reasons related to the salary cap. For what it's worth, La Canfora shared that it could "take a first-round pick and either a second-or-third-round pick to land Brown." La Canfora added that the Eagles may accept a first-round choice and "an emerging talent on their roster at a key position, most likely someone still on his rookie contract and thus very affordable and salary-cap friendly."
Thus far, there has been no indication that any team is willing to match such an asking price for Brown. It could be interesting to see if he has anything noteworthy to say about his uncertain future before springtime workouts begin in April.
