NFL Insider Envisions Another Maxx Crosby Trade

The Raiders tried to trade Maxx Crosby once. It could happen again, this time during the 2026 season.

Adam Schefter joined the Pat McAfee Show and discussed the future of Crosby in Las Vegas.

"I think the real question with Maxx Crosby and his future in Vegas comes down to what happens if this team doesn't perform well. What if there's a contender out there before the trade deadline that wants to beef up its pass rush? Could we see a team later this season, if the Raiders' season is slipping away, make a run at Maxx Crosby? And I could see that being a possibility in October. That I see," Schefter said.

The Raiders traded Crosby to Baltimore for two first-round picks back in March. But the Ravens ultimately backed out of the deal before it was official. The awkward scenario has been handled well by both Crosby and the team. But the possibility of trading Crosby persists.

Crosby Wants to Be a Raider

Crosby has spent his entire career with the Raiders. He never publicly requested a trade out of Las Vegas.

"People don't even understand, I never wanted to leave in the first place," Crosby told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. "But people have their own opinions on that. And that is what it is. And that's part of it. I never, ever wanted to leave this place. I don't do business. I'm not on the business side. I'm not on the third floor. So I don't know. I'm not a mind reader. I'm not a future predictor. I'm not going to do that. I'm going to be present. I'm going to be the best Raider I can be for as long as I possibly can be."

Crosby has been nothing but loyal to the Raiders throughout his seven years in the Silver and Black. That loyalty has been repaid with an avalanche of losses. The Raiders are 46-71 with one playoff appearance with Crosby.

The continued losing is an obvious reason for Crosby to want out. The past, coupled with the current rebuilding state, puts Crosby in jeopardy of playing out his prime on losing teams.

But he has never said he wants to leave.

Will the Raiders Want to Move Crosby Again?

The Raiders already thought it was smart to trade Crosby back in March. With a rebuild underway and the Ravens offering up two first-round picks, the Raiders sent Crosby packing. Baltimore backing out of the trade means Las Vegas gets Crosby back. For now.

The logic of trading Crosby is still the same. He will be 29 before this season starts. His next couple of seasons are likely the end of his prime. The Raiders are not planning to contend in the next two seasons. Moving Crosby for draft picks that would yield younger players who fit the timeline makes sense.

Crosby's teammates have heard the renewed trade buzz throughout training camp, even as Crosby returns motivated after the Ravens backed out of the deal.

If the Raiders are out of the playoff picture halfway through the season, moving Crosby is certainly a possibility.
