NFL insider hints a major Dolphins trade could still be coming after Week 8 win — and one of Miami’s top defenders may be on the move

The Miami Dolphins logged a sorely needed win on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. They'll try to secure another one on Thursday Night Football this week against the Ravens. It seems that they'll have to contend with Lamar Jackson being back in the mix for Baltimore — who the entire football world is expecting to climb out of a 1-5 start down the stretch.

Miami will try to rain on the parade. And two of the biggest pieces of that puzzle will be doing so with trade rumors swirling over their heads, even after that win against Falcons. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently recapped his continued expectations for trade deadline action — and he still believes Miami is going to move a pass rusher. Thursday night may be a curtain call for 2:15.

ESPN's Adam Schefter still believes that the Dolphins are going to trade a pass rusher

"I think the Miami Dolphins will move at least one of their pass rushers — Jaelan Phillips or Bradley Chubb."

We're less than one week away and the Dolphins will have a jump start on a majority of the league on knowing exactly where their football team stands after Week 9 — Miami plays tomorrow night against the Ravens and then will be free all weekend to field any possible calls.

A lot of the insider language is coded, they know more than they say outright and part of the insider game is leveraging that knowledge to be able to talk from a place of insight without saying 'too much' given these things aren't official until they're actually official. That makes Schefter's continued belief that "at least" one pass rusher is going to move seem quite ominous for outcome. Or exciting. It depends on your perspective of if you'd like either player to stay in Miami.

Dolphins' franchise active sack leaders in Miami

  1. DT Zach Sieler - 30.0 sacks
  2. EDGE Jaelan Phillips - 25.0 sacks
  3. EDGE Bradley Chubb - 17.5 sacks
  4. EDGE Chop Robinson - 7.0 sacks
  5. LB Jordyn Brooks - 5.5 sacks

Chubb appears destined to be a cap casualty if he's not moved after the season, whereas Phillips could be a long-term piece of the puzzle but Miami would need to find a good contract value for an extension.

So how likely is this to happen? One of the other predictions Schefter cooked up on this segment has already happened — that being the Patriots trading Kyle Dugger. That trade was finalized last night with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So the wheels of the deadline are moving. And it appears as though Schefter believes at least one Dolphin is going to be headed out when it is all said and done.
