NFL Insider Names Colts Top Landing Spot for Terry McLaurin

As we get late into July and NFL teams start to gather for training camps, it's fair to assume that most rosters are set for the most part when it comes to additions. Free agency has run its course, and a majority of rookies have signed their contracts.

However, there are sometimes some late moves made in the offseason that turn heads, and the Indianapolis Colts are potentially in the mix to make one of them.

Said move has to do with Washington Commanders' wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is openly frustrated with his contract situation in D.C. and involved in a stand-off with the Washington front-office.

While it's more likely that the Commanders reach an agreement with the All-Pro WR rather than deal him elsewhere, the Colts are being named as a team that could potentially act as a landing spot should the latter happen.

According to CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin, Indy's wide receiver situation sets up well for McLaurin to come in and provide a late off-season boost.

"This is something of a make-or-break year for Shane Steichen's offense, and all signs point to the Colts leaning on a combination of Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson under center," Benjamin writes. "That spells trouble. Perhaps the best way to offset that predicament is by further stocking the cupboard out wide, especially with not a ton of resources devoted to the quarterback spot."

At the moment, the Colts have some decent options at receiver, including Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs. They also added first-round TE Tyler Warren in the 2025 NFL draft and have high expectations for the rookie.

However, getting a player like McLaurin, who has over 6,000 yards and 38 touchdowns in his six-year career, would be a major boost for either Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson Jr., whichever wins the starting job.

Is it likely to happen? Probably not, as the Commanders would be making a risky move in getting rid of Jayden Daniels' top pass-catcher right before the season. Should things play out in that way, though, the Colts could be a position to come up big.
