With several quarterbacks going down across the league — most notably, Joe Burrow, who will miss at least the next three months — Kirk Cousins trade rumors are back in the news. However, top NFL insider Ian Rapoport stated on Thursday that, to this point, there have been no negotiations between the Falcons and any other team surrounding the veteran quarterback.
From The Insiders: Even with the QB injuries, there's been no move to trade (or trade for) Kirk Cousins. A look at why… pic.twitter.com/TZeaujz3Hq

Now, as Rapoport points out, there are a couple of reasons for this.
It’s still very early. The only team that’s really desperate for a quarterback right now is the Cincinnati Bengals, and even they have some confidence in backup quarterback Jake Browning, who started in seven games for the team back in 2023 and completed over 70% of his passes for nearly 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. They are at least going to see if he can right the ship before seriously inquiring on other options.
Additionally, the Falcons have already bitten the financial bullet by hanging onto Kirk Cousins for this long. They are already paying him, and his role on the team is extremely valuable. There would be no drop-off if Michael Penix Jr. were to go down with an injury. One could even argue quarterback play might improve with a healthy Kirk Cousins under center. So, unless a team is willing to offer significant draft capital in return, the Falcons are better off just hanging onto him.
It’s a situation worth monitoring over the coming weeks, especially if more quarterback injuries arise. But for now, it’s far from surprising that the Falcons have not been involved in any serious trade discussions surrounding Kirk Cousins.
