NFL insider reveals the Cleveland Browns are already sniffing around making a trade a few weeks into the season
Jeff Lange-USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cleveland Browns are 1-2 on the season and probably should be 2-1 if it weren’t for a couple of blunders against the Cincinnati Bengals. In Week 3, the Browns went out and beat the Green Bay Packers and they have that to hang their hats on. The road isn’t getting any easier for the Browns after a first couple of tough games with the Detroit Lions on the road in Week 4. When the Browns go on the road against the Lions, it’ll be their first full game without starting OT Dawand Jones

Jones went down in the first quarter against the Packers with a knee injury that required surgery and the Browns have placed him on the injured reserve. Cleveland had already been missing RT Jack Conklin for two games, though he could return this week against the Lions. Early in the season the Browns are already dealing with offensive line issues and a trade could soon be coming.

The Browns are looking around the NFL for offensive line help

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Browns are said to be looking at options for a potential trade to add an offensive tackle. Cleveland hasn’t been shy about making trades since GM Andrew Berry has been around and it would make a ton of sense to sure up their depth. Clerbsldn is going with Cornelius Lucas at left tackle currently, but an injury to either him or Conklin, and things could get ugly.

Offensive line depth isn’t easy to find and it would take the Browns finding a player buried on a depth chart who they think could come in and potentially help them out. Cleveland isn’t competing for a Super Bowl this season, so there’s no chance of it being a splash move. If the Browns can make a trade for offensive line help, expect it to be a late-round pick swap of sorts. Cleveland traded a seventh-round pick back at roster cutdowns to the Los Angeles Rams for KT Leveston and he’s currently their No. 3 tackle after losing Jones.

The Browns are in London after they take on the Lions this week, so adding a player may not happen until after that game. Cleveland could evaluate their current state of things with their offensive tackles over the next two games, then add if the right player comes about. In-season trades aren’t always that common outside of a few deadline moves, so it is going to be interesting to see if the Browns can get a deal done and when.
