NFL Legend Chad Johnson Sends Message Amid Unfortunate Joe Burrow Situation

The Cincinnati Bengals are off to a 2-0 start to the 2025 NFL season, but an injury to star quarterback Joe Burrow suffered during Sunday's 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars soured the fun in Week 2.

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Burrow will need surgery on his left toe and will miss at least three months, leaving doubt over whether he will be able to return this season.

The injury occurred on a play that has become a little too familiar to Bengals fans — the pocket collapsing around their $275 million quarterback. Burrow was sacked 48 times in 2024, tied for fourth-most in the league.

As soon as Burrow went down in pain and left the game, legendary Bengals receiver Chad Johnson immediately knew his former team was going to be in a tough spot.

"Joe Burrow you can have my toe…," Johnson wrote on X during the game.

Formerly known as "Ochocinco," Johnson, who made seven Pro Bowls during his 10-year stint in Cincinnati, knows the importance of consistent quarterback play. His two All-Pro First Team selections in 2005 and 2006 aligned with Carson Palmer's two Pro Bowl seasons under center for the Bengals.

In 2008, a season-ending injury to Palmer saw Johnson's production drop when Ryan Fitzpatrick took over at quarterback. That is the situation facing the Bengals' current wide receivers, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, to whom the team committed $276 million over the next four years with new contracts in the offseason.

After tight wins against the Jaguars and Cleveland Browns, Jake Browning will take over as the starting quarterback in Cincinnati. He threw three interceptions against the Jaguars, but recovered to score a game-winning, one-yard touchdown run with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Browning has a 4-3 record as a starter for the Bengals, coming when he spelled an injured Burrow for seven games in 2023. Without Burrow, the Bengals' points per game average is nearly a touchdown lower.

Johnson's offer on social media may have been a turn of phrase, but his former team will need all the help it can get to avoid a disastrous turn following their 2-0 start.

Cincinnati visits the Minnesota Vikings (1-1) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
