In early 2026, Troy Aikman did more than just broadcast games. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wanted an outsider with deep league connections to bring in a general manager. So, he hired the Monday Night Football analyst as a consultant to lead the search.
They eventually hired Jon-Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers to fill the GM vacancy, but Aikman’s role didn't end there. After former head coach Mike McDaniel was fired, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Aikman also extended his involvement to assist in the head coach search.
This process ultimately led to the hiring of Jeff Hafley, the former Packers defensive coordinator, as the new head coach on Jan. 19. Now that all searches are wrapped, the three-time Super Bowl champion says he's still keeping a foot in the door in Miami.
Appearing on the Rodeo Time podcast, the 59-year-old confirmed he'll remain involved with the franchise in some capacity, while making clear his broadcast career isn't going anywhere.
"I'm going to continue to work with them in some capacity," Aikman said. "That's kind of scratched whatever itch I had when it came to being in the front office. But I'm very blessed. I continue to enjoy what I'm doing in broadcasting. Love who I work with. I've been working with Joe -- shoot, we're going on our 25th year together next year."

His work in Miami has led some NFL insiders to wonder if other teams might pursue him for a front-office role. Jeff Darlington is among those who suggested that the Dallas Cowboys, Aikman’s former team, could consider him for a senior executive position.
However, despite the speculation, he has emphasized that he is not leaving his broadcasting career at this time and that his current advisory work does not interfere with his ESPN responsibilities.
