To say that the “Sunday Night Football” showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys was an incredible game would be an understatement. NFL fans who were not tuned in for the primetime clash will hold some regret after having missed what will probably go down as one of the best games of the season.

There was a lot of hype heading into this one as Micah Parsons made his return to AT&T Stadium for the first time since his blockbuster trade to Green Bay in the offseason. Parsons was impressive against his former team, but the two-time All-Pro linebacker’s performance was just a part of what was a real spectacle of a game.

It was the Packers who got off to a lead on Sunday, taking a 13-0 advantage early in the second quarter. The Cowboys answered back, scoring 16 points in a little over 10 minutes to take a 16-13 lead at the break.

The two teams continued to exchange blows in the second half, scoring touchdown after touchdown on each end. Ultimately, it was a 53-yard field goal from Packers kicker Brandon McManus that sent this game to overtime, with the game ending at 37-37 in regulation.

Both teams scored again in the extra period, tallying one field goal each. That was all she wrote for this one, with the game ending in a 40-40 draw after the extra period.

Shortly after the final whistle, the NFL took to social media to announce the historic nature of this overtime contest.

“FINAL: The Packers-Cowboys SNF game ends as the 2nd-highest scoring tie in NFL history ” the league posted on X.

For context, the highest-scoring tie in NFL history happened in 1964 when the Boston Patriots and the Oakland Raiders drew, 43-43. The Packers and the Cowboys came very close to tying, or perhaps even surpassing, that record on Sunday night.

After it is all said and done, however, there was no winner in this one. The Cowboys are 1-2-1 after Sunday’s tie, while the Packers are now 2-1-1.
