The New England Patriots have struggled on the road this year, losing their third game of the season last Thursday at Soldier Field. They will look to change their fortune in Week 8 when the team hits the road to take on the Miami Dolphins.
Drake Maye had a solid game in their last loss, though it was the defense that allowed 30 points to Chicago that really hurt them.
The 24-year-old quarterback threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns with his lone mistake being one interception. Maye also rushed the ball four times for 26 yards and a touchdown.
During one of those rushing touchdowns, Maye took a big hit from Bears defensive back Clark Phillips.
Maye rushed seven yards and while he was immediately ruled short, replay assistance showed he broke the plane. But while trying to score, Phillips drilled Maye and used his helmet in the process, which is not allowed.
While there was no penalty on the play, the NFL reviewed it and decided to issue an $11,550 fine to Phillips.
Typically, fines for impermissible use of the helmet can be upwards of $20,000 for a first incident, so his fine came in slightly at a discount, which suggests the hit was not deemed as severe as other late hits.
Bears DB Clark Phillips was fined $11,550 for use of the helmet on a tackle of Patriots QB Drake Maye in last week’s game.

Despite the blow, Maye showed no injury concerns and finished the game strong. New England needs that toughness going forward.
With A.J. Brown sidelined and the offense still figuring it out, Maye’s ability to stay healthy and extend plays with his legs is one of the few things working in the Patriots’ favor right now.
