NFL Makes Punishment Announcement on Eagles DT Jalen Carter

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of a five-game losing streak and the team is starting to operate with next year more in mind than this one. Philadelphia’s most recent loss came on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.

While the offense was shorthanded with Saquon Barkley barely playing, DeVonta Smith not playing and Tanner McKee at quarterback, they still scored 21 points. The defense, however, was a disaster as they allowed 38 points.

It was a frustrating night for the team, especially for defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Carter has had a solid fourth season with the organization, forcing three fumbles, collecting three sacks and five tackles for loss.

During the game in the third quarter, Carter got into it with backup Cowboys tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford. After a play, he struck Spann-Ford twice in the head and neck area after the whistle and after the play had concluded away from both of them.

While he did not receive a flag in the moment, the play was reviewed by the NFL and they decided to fine him a total of $12,537 for his actions. The league called it unnecessary roughness and it fell under the category of striking.

This was a first-time offense by Carter, but per the NFL fines and appeals schedule, if he does it again he will be fined $18,507 the next time around.

Given it was a heated rivalry game that his team was losing, it probably explains why tensions were high.

Carter has built a reputation for doing some things on the field he should not, such as when he was ejected for spitting in a 2025 season opener against Dallas.
