NFL Makes Punishment Decision on Josh Allen Incident

Josh Allen has led the Buffalo Bills to a 3-0 start in the 2025 season, picking up where he left off after his MVP campaign. The quarterback has thrown for 755 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions, while completing 69.7 percent of his passes.

But in Week 2 against the New York Jets, Allen's season nearly took a concerning turn. He suffered a bloody nose on a roughing-the-passer hit from defensive end Micheal Clemons, forcing him out briefly before returning with gauze in his nostril.

The incident left fans questioning whether further punishment would follow for Clemons.

Allen, meanwhile, showed no signs of slowing down. He returned to finish the 30-10 win over the Jets after being medically cleared to play. Following the game, he addressed the nose injury, admitting uncertainty about exactly what struck him — whether a hand, helmet or knee — but confirming his own helmet hit the bridge of his nose, and his nose was “leaking” (via NFL.com).

Despite the penalty on the play, however, the NFL chose not to fine Clemons for the hit, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who reported the league’s decision on Saturday:

“Jets DE Micheal Clemons was not fined for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Josh Allen,” Cimini wrote on X.

The injury notwithstanding, Allen played all of Thursday’s home game against the Miami Dolphins, wearing a clear visor for protection. It marked the first time he used the protective gear in an NFL game (though he’s used similar gear in practices and during his days with the Wyoming Cowboys).

But the adjustment had no effect on his performance as he went 22-of-28 for 213 yards and three touchdowns, powering Buffalo to a 31-21 win. The efficient showing was a reminder of Allen’s ability to deliver even under physical duress, reinforcing why he remains one of the league’s top quarterbacks.

Josh Allen and the Bills to Face the Saints in Week 4

The Bills return to Highmark Stadium on Sept. 28 to face the New Orleans Saints with a chance to move to 4-0. Allen’s nose is still bruised, but there are no indications that it will keep him off the field.

Buffalo enters in top form after posting 360 total yards against Miami, including 157 yards on the ground, while Allen continues to guide a balanced attack. The Saints defense has struggled early this season, but their pass rush could pose some challenges on the Bills’ offensive line.

Week 4’s matchup will be another opportunity for Allen to strengthen Buffalo’s undefeated start and keep his MVP defense on track.
