Ben Johnson garners a lot of attention on the sideline during Chicago Bears games. His fiery and intense coaching style has been highly entertaining to many since he last season. Cameras captured him while on the job on Sunday against the New York Jets, and the NFL noticed his actions and reacted to it.
The Bears improved to 3-1 for the year with a 23-12 win at Soldier Field. What’s more impressive is they achieved back-to-back victories with Caleb Williams sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The star quarterback sustained it in Week 2 and remains week-to-week. Case Keenum starred under center in Week 3, while Tyson Bagent led the offense versus the Jets.
Johnson and his coaching staff also deserves a lot of credit for Chicago’s strong start. They have been preparing the team well ahead of games and watching film to come up with schemes and plays against their opponents.
The NFL uploaded a clip of Johnson clicking his pen while watching the action and coaching the Bears. While he’s not the first head coach to consistently do it, the league thinks his action could be bringing Chicago good luck.
“Maybe Ben Johnson’s pen clicking is good luck
@ChicagoBears,” the NFL wrote.

Next up for Johnson and Co. is a road game against their rivals, the Green Bay Packers. It’s the first of a two-game road trip as they’ll also travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Oct. 18 for a showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.
Williams’ status is up in the air and Bagent has already been named the Week 5 starting quarterback. The QB2 and Keenum’s emergence as capable starters likely gives Williams more time to focus on his recovery. Analysts expect him to return in the coming weeks to lead the Bears to even more success after winning the NFC North in the 2025 season.
