The final stretch of the NFL regular season always brings clarity. For some teams, hope is still alive. For others, the math has finally ruled them out. As Week 17 unfolds, more franchises are officially removed from postseason contention, turning the focus toward draft position, roster evaluation and what comes next.
This page serves as a real-time snapshot of the playoff picture, with a clear breakdown of which teams are eliminated, which ones are on the brink and which games matter most as the day moves along. When the games wrap up Sunday, we will update as we head into the final week of the season to start January.
These teams have been mathematically eliminated from reaching the postseason, regardless of Week 17 or Week 18 results.
The New York Giants are 2-13 and have been out of the race for weeks as the season unraveled early.
The Las Vegas Raiders sit at 2-13 after a poor year that never found traction. Head coach Pete Carroll's first season was less than impressive in Sin City.
The Cleveland Browns are 3-12 and officially eliminated despite brief flashes of competitiveness. They can play spoiler in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Arizona Cardinals are 3-12 and are playing strictly for evaluation and pride.
The Tennessee Titans enter Week 17 at 3-12 and are locked out of the playoff picture. It was an up-and-down season for rookie quarterback Cam Ward under center.
The New York Jets are also 3-12 after another season that fell short of expectations.
The Washington Commanders dropped to 4-12 following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys and are officially eliminated. The injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels did this squad in.
The New Orleans Saints are 5-10 and no longer have a path to the postseason.
The Cincinnati Bengals sit at 5-10 and have been eliminated despite a late push. Quarterback Joe Burrow will head home again before the postseason.
The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-10 and officially out following their Week 16 loss to the Denver Broncos. The longtime contender will be watching from home.
The Atlanta Falcons are 6-9 entering Monday night and already eliminated from contention.
The Miami Dolphins are 6-9 and no longer alive in the playoff race.
The Dallas Cowboys improved to 7-8-1 with a win over Washington but are eliminated.
The Detroit Lions are 8-8 and were officially eliminated after their loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day. Dan Campbell has some questions to answer in the offseason.
The Minnesota Vikings are also 8-8 and eliminated despite knocking Detroit out on Thursday. Minnesota has finished strong, but it was too little, too late.
The Indianapolis Colts sit at 8-7 and have been eliminated due to conference tiebreak scenarios. Jonathan Taylor had a great first half of the season, but injuries and poor play slowed him and the Colts down.
A few teams are not officially out yet, but the margin for error is gone.
The Baltimore Ravens are 8-8. They are not eliminated yet, but a Pittsburgh win would remove their final path to the postseason.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 7-8 and facing a must-win situation against the Miami Dolphins. A loss combined with a Carolina Panthers win would officially eliminate them.
Several Week 17 matchups carry direct elimination consequences. Steelers at Browns, Buccaneers at Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks at Panthers all play a role in determining who is officially out by the end of the afternoon window.
As Sunday turns into Sunday night and Monday, expect this list to grow. Teams already eliminated will shift focus to draft positioning. It should be a fun final two weeks of the NFL regular season as the final teams look to get in, and the teams that are in look to improve their positioning.
