Another veteran NFL quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, decided to retire in the 2026 offseason. The league has witnessed shocking decisions in recent times, including two big retirement announcements.
Two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons announced his retirement from the game late in April, after playing 134 games and recording 32 interceptions for 442 yards and one touchdown.
A day later, former Seattle Seahawks quarterback PJ Walker announced his decision to call it a career. Walker, 31, shone during his time with the XFL, which drew attention from NFL teams.
On Thursday, Taylor Heinicke announced his retirement from the NFL after seven years competing at the highest level.
“For 25 years, I had the pleasure to play this great sport of football,” Heinicke wrote in a statement posted on social media. “It has taught me a lot, not only about myself, but about life as well.
“Many ups and downs throughout the years, but the ups outweigh the downs tenfold. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would’ve been able to live this life. Excited for this next chapter of my life!” he concluded. “And always, Go Skins!”
