The NFL briefly addressed the allegations of battery against New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.

Police are investigating Smith after a woman accused him of assaulting her. Officers responded to a 911 call on Sunday, with no arrests made.

The Jets have yet to comment publicly on the situation, but an NFL spokesperson gave a brief statement to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

"We are aware of the matter and the club has been in contact with the league," an NFL spokesperson told PFT via email. "We have no further comment at this time."

Audio of the 911 call revealed a woman who said he was Smith's ex-girlfriend telling a dispatcher, "My ex-boyfriend just beat me up." She posted an Instagram video claiming Smith "beat my a** cause he HATES taking care of his special needs kid and can't be left alone with him because he'd rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty."

The Davie (Fla.) Police Department indicated Monday that the matter was closed, only to reveal otherwise the next day.

"We were informed [Monday] evening that, during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by detectives," a police spokesperson told ESPN's Rich Cimini. "It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time."

Smith rejoined the Jets, where he started his career, by signing a one-year, $3.3 million deal this offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler was widely expected to capture the starting job despite throwing 17 interceptions with the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

The former second-round pick revitalized his career with the Seattle Seahawks, leading the team to three straight winning seasons with 71 passing touchdowns from 2022 to 2024.
