This weekend saw what's being described as a "targeted political attack" on two Minnesota lawmakers as the manhunt for a suspected killer continues.
The shooter claimed the lives of Democratic state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband at their Brooklyn Park home. While additionally seriously injuring Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. Hortman was the former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. While Hoffman, also a Democrat, has served as a senator for the state since 2012.
The man in question is believed to be 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, who authorities indicate carried out the tragedy in the early hours of the AM while posing as a police officer.
The story of the assassination and attempted assassination quickly made national news and left many concerned about the state of affairs in our current political climate. Not the least of which was NFL reporter Jane Slater who reacted to the Minnesota police chief's description of the events that took place at the victim's homes.

Governor Tim Walz offered some remarks on the killings. Saying during a news conference: "Our state lost a dear leader and I lost the dearest of friends. ... She was a formidable public servant. A fixture and giant in Minnesota. She woke up every day determined to make this state a better place."
He then went on to further condemn the heinous acts in an official statement.
"We are not a country that settles our differences at gunpoint. We have demonstrated again and again in our state that it is possible to peacefully disagree, that out state is strengthened by civil public debate," he wrote. "We must stand united against all forms of violence — and I call on everyone to join me in that commitment."
The suspected shooter also exchanged gunfire with police and had a list of other possible targets in his vehicle.
