NFL Rookie Quarterback Has 'Worst Drive Ever' At Practice Thursday

Countless rookies have faced their first "welcome to the NFL" moment in training camp this week, including New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough.

Despite being heavily linked to Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders during the pre-draft process, the Saints selected Shough with the 40th overall pick. He impressed scouts during his final season of college football, throwing for 3,195 yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. There were concerns about his injury history, but the Saints were willing to overlook it.

"We just felt like it was a really good player," Saints head coach Kellen Moore said. "Obviously we felt good about Tyler through this process and I don't think there's anything wrong with ever investing in the quarterback room. We feel like there's a lot of depth in there now as we go through this process and let's let it play out."

Before the start of training camp, the Saints signed Shough to a fully-guaranteed $10.795 million contract. After Thursday's practice, fans are starting to question that deal.

Saints beat reporter Jeff Duncan said Shough may have orchestrated the "worst 2-minute drive" during Thursday's practice.

"I’ve seen a lot of practices in my 26 years covering the Saints, and today was one of the best that I can remember from strictly a competitive standpoint. Plays being made from both sides, at all levels, from all over the field. Good stuff," Duncan wrote on X. "At the same time, Tyler Shough might have overseen/directed the worst 2-minute drive in the history of the NFL during situational work late in the practice."

While the Saints aren't ready to write off Shough, it's fair to say he has a lot of developing to do before he wins the starting job.

Shough will have a chance to show what he can do on Aug. 10 when he makes his preseason debut against the Los Angeles Chargers
