NFL Set To Release Full Schedule On May 14

The NFL is the only sports league on the planet that can take a literal list of dates and times, slap a prime-time television broadcast on it, and make us all wait with bated breath like it is the finale of a prestige HBO drama. But who are we kidding? We’re going to devour every single second of it.

The wait is almost over, football fans. The 2026 NFL schedule release is officially knocking on the door, bringing us the dates, times, and prime-time showdowns we need to plan out our entire autumn. Grab your calendars and prepare your travel budgets, because the league is about to give us the roadmap for the season.

When Is the 2026 NFL Schedule Release Date?

Mark it down: Thursday, May 14. After weeks of rumors and “leaks” that were about as reliable as a rookie quarterback in a two-minute drill, the NFL confirmed that the full slate will drop on May 14. You can catch the primetime special over on ESPN2 and the NFL Network.

Of course, the league won’t be able to keep a lid on everything until Thursday night. Expect broadcast networks to start dropping breadcrumbs during their upfront presentations earlier in the week. By the time the official broadcast rolls around, half the games will likely be plastered all over your social media feeds. But we’ll still tune in, because football is finally back on the menu.

Games We Already Know: Opening Night and Overseas Flights

We don’t have the full puzzle yet, but the NFL has already handed us a few massive corner pieces. First up, the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will do the honors of kicking off the 2026 season on Wednesday, September 9. Yes, a Wednesday. Why? Because the NFL does what it wants. We don’t know who is walking into Lumen Field to take them on just yet, but expect a heavy hitter, maybe a surging Chicago Bears squad or a classic showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

Then, things get weird and wild. On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will clash in Melbourne, Australia. You’ll need to set an extra alarm for this one, as the time zone difference means a morning kickoff for American viewers.

A couple of weeks later, on Sunday, September 27, the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys are packing their bags for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Add in upcoming games in London, Munich, Paris, Spain, and Mexico City, and you’re looking at the most globally expansive NFL season in history.

The Social Media Super Bowl: Bring On the Videos

Let’s be honest, half the fun of schedule release day isn’t even the schedule itself; it is the chaotic, incredibly petty release videos the teams drop on social media.

Every franchise spends months cooking up ways to troll their divisional rivals, but the undisputed kings of the genre reside in Los Angeles. The Chargers’ social media team has won the internet for the last four years straight with their anime-inspired, Easter-egg-stuffed masterpieces. They never pull their punches, and they’ve proven they have no issue dragging the league’s biggest controversies into the spotlight.

The NFL Streaming Wars: Netflix Enters the Chat

If you feel like you need an Excel spreadsheet just to figure out which app you need to watch a game, you are not alone. The NFL is leaning hard into the streaming wars for 2026, and the traditional networks are starting to sweat.

Netflix isn’t just dipping its toes into the NFL waters; it’s doing a cannonball. The streaming giant is heavily rumored to be broadcasting that Rams-49ers game in Australia, a Thanksgiving Eve game, and two games on Christmas Day.

This aggressive pivot to streaming has actually ruffled feathers in Washington, with politicians and legacy networks like Fox raising eyebrows at the fragmentation of live sports. But for the NFL, the math is simple: more platforms mean more revenue. Just make sure your Wi-Fi is ready to go by September.
