We have another NFC South matchup this Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons visit the Carolina Panthers. It's been a rough season for the Panthers. Can they make this one a game?
Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers: Betting Odds
Spread: Atlanta -3, Over/under: 35 points, Atlanta -162 | Carolina +136
The Falcons are 6-7, off a close loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that could ultimately determine the NFC South come season's end. They'll look to pick up a crucial divisional win in this matchup with the lowly Carolina Panthers.
2023 has been a disaster for Carolina, currently sitting at 1-10, without its first-round pick next year thanks to its investment in Bryce Young. An investment that does not look so good right now, by the way.
Atlanta beat Carolina earlier this season 24-10 and have won nine of the past 12 meetings, with eight of those wins by 8+ points.
The Falcons are just 4-9 ATS this season, but the Panthers are even worse at 2-9-2. Atlanta is 8-5 to the under and Carolina is 9-4 to the under.
To answer the question we teased at the top, no, we don't expect Carolina to make this a competitive game. Bryce Young has been a disaster this season at quarterback, and it's not ridiculous to suggest that the Panthers might be shopping for a new passer next offseason. If only they had the first overall pick.
The recipe to attack Carolina is simple: Run the ball. The Panthers have not been able to stop opposing running attacks all season, allowing the fourth-most yards per game to RBs, and DVOA grades them worst in the NFL.
Well, running the ball is most certainly Atlanta's identity with Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. Expect a heavy dosage of both as the Falcons comfortably take this one to aid their division title hopes.
