NFL Week 2 panic meter: Chargers on red alert

These were the games L.A. needed to win. The next seven games on the schedule are at the Buffalo Bills, at the Seattle Seahawks, versus the Denver Broncos, at the Kansas City Chiefs, at the Los Angeles Rams, versus the Houston Texans and at the Baltimore Ravens. 

It's still early, but this team might be done for already. 

Houston Texans

Panic meter rating: 3/10

The Texans are also 0-2 through two weeks, but we're not as worried about DeMeco Ryans' squad. Remember, Houston started 0-3 last season and still made the playoffs as a wild-card team.

This team's floor is so high thanks to its elite defense, and C.J. Stroud has looked good so far with 627 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions through two weeks. Once Nico Collins returns to the lineup, the Texans offense should return to the group that put up 31 points against the Bills in Week 1. 

The AFC South is a combined 1-7 so far this season, so the Texans don't need to worry just yet. 

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 

Panic meter rating: 7.5/10

The Bucs were in a perfect spot to bounce back from a disappointing Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but they fell flat on their faces in an embarrassing loss to the Cleveland Browns. Baker Mayfield, who signed a $165 million contract this offseason, has been downright terrible in 2026 with four turnovers and only one touchdown pass.

Tampa Bay might need to go only 9-8 to win the NFC South, but that's hard to envision with the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys on deck.

Chicago Bears

Panic meter rating: 2.5/10

This number was at a full 10/10 when Caleb Williams was getting driven off the field in a cart with a towel on his head and tears streaming down his face. It looked as if the star quarterback's season was over, but Bears fans were able to breathe a collective sigh of relief when it turned out to be a hamstring injury.

Williams is now considered week-to-week and will likely miss some time, but he avoided a disaster scenario. Tyson Bagent is a capable backup who can keep the ship afloat until Williams returns.
