NFL Week 7: Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Ravens betting picks, preview

The Lions enter this contest tied for the best record in the NFC, just let that sink in a little. They are hurting at running back right now but winning games always makes things feel a little lighter. Baltimore is at the top of the AFC North, though just barely, and now they can't take advantage of the "free square" that Detroit used to be. This is another chance for the Lions to make a statement.

Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Ravens Betting Trends and Odds

Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023 - 1 p.m. ET

Odds: Baltimore -3, Over/under 42, Detroit +140 | Baltimore -165

Detroit is getting a lot of respect in the marketplace these days but few teams would be favored at Baltimore. This line says they are about even talent-wise though and the Lions have the steadier situation at quarterback. Home favorites in this range can be tough to move though, especially with the love for Detroit increasing each week. Sportsbooks know Lions fans would be all over a +3.5.

Picks for Detroit vs. Baltimore

Detroit +3, Detroit to Score First -105

I love the Detroit story, I really do, even though we might be getting to the point of them being overvalued. Nevertheless, even though they are on the road, they may have a real advantage with Baltimore just getting back from their overseas trip (that can make teams sluggish). Detroit has been great starting games and playing with a lead this season so look for more of that on Sunday. They are hurting in the backfield but with QB Jared Goff playing so well and the passing weapons upgraded with the return of receiver Jamieson Williams they can play a nice complimentary game on the road, only needing to hold Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in check. I might sprinkle a little on the Moneyline for this one too and include Detroit in teasers.

Detroit is the only team in the NFL that is averaging more than a touchdown in the first quarter this season - 8 ppg. Of course, who scores first can be just as influenced by the coin flip, but it should also be noted that the Lions are third in the NFL in points allowed in the first quarter too. Baltimore is strong in both of these metrics too, but with limited prop options to start the week, the Lions are worth the shot here.

Detroit is bringing in the cash and the tickets at this point of the week. Backers have been making money with the Lions but I still do not anticipate this line moving off the key number of -3.
