Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered Sunday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints having won six of seven since a season-opening loss to this very same team.
For his part, Tom Brady had been stellar all season. That included 20 touchdowns and four interceptions in eight starts for his new team.
From pretty much the get-go against the Saints in Tampa Bay, Brady and his Buccaneers didn’t have it. They were down 14-0 in the first quarter. That was extended to 38-0 in the fourth quarter following Brady’s third interception of the game.
When all was said and done, New Orleans came out on top by the lopsided score of 38-3. This represented Brady’s worst statistical performance since a 31-0 loss when he was a member of the New England Patriots back in 2003.
It was bad. Really, really bad. Brady looked completely washed. The Buccaneers’ previously stout defense could not stop Drew Brees (four touchdown passes). Bruce Arians was outmatched by Saints head coach Sean Payton.
A team that many considered the top dog in the NFC ahead of Week 9, these Buccaneers laid an egg in every possible way against the Saints.
Obviously, the NFL world had its reactions to Brady and his Buccaneers losing by 35 points.

Tom Brady has a passer rating of 29.2 right now, which would be the second-worst ever for him in 294 career games. Only worse is that 31-0 loss to Bills in 2003 opener, 0 TDs, 4 INTs. And yes, Patriots somehow went 14-2 and won the Super Bowl that year.

Tom Brady has thrown 3 INT in a game for the first time since a 34-31 loss at BUF in Week 3, 2011.

That snaps a streak of 145 consecutive games with 10+ pass attempts and fewer than 3 INT — the longest such streak by any player since at least 1950

One now has to wonder where Brady and the Buccaneers go from here. Sure they are 6-3 on the season. That’s not a terrible mark. However, a blowout loss like this is not going to inspire confidence.
It will also likely lead to Arians calling out Tom Brady once again. That was the case on a near never-ending loop when the six-time Super Bowl champion struggled earlier in the season.
With games coming up against the Panthers, Rams and Chiefs before a Week 13 bye, Tom Brady and these Buccaneers have a lot of work to do.
As for the Saints, they have now won five consecutive games after some struggles to open the season. It sure seems like Brees and Co. have righted the ship heading into a Week 10 outing against the injury-plagued San Francisco 49ers.
