Nick Wright Pitches Blockbuster Justin Herbert Trade

The 2026 season has been so disastrous for the Los Angeles Chargers that Justin Herbert trade rumors are swirling.

Herbert, who is under contract through the 2029 season, hasn’t been able to lift up an underwhelming Chargers roster. In three games this year, the Pro Bowler has completed a career-low 59.1% of his passes for 627 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.

Although there’s zero indication the Chargers will move on from Herbert, FS1’s Nick Wright believes the New York Jets could make an offer the front office in Los Angeles can’t refuse.

As of this moment, the Jets own a trio of top-10 picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. If they want Herbert, they could make a really enticing offer.

“It’s absolutely on the board that the Jets have three Top 12 picks – their own first-round pick, the Colts’ first-round pick from the Sauce Gardner trade, and they get to pick Dallas’s first or Green Bay’s first, which Green Bay owes Dallas for Micah,” Wright said. “Do I expect at least two of those three teams to be really bad? Yes. If this Chargers’ year goes terrible, if the Jets call up the Chargers and say, ‘We will give you, not future picks, three picks you can use right now.’ And if you’re the Jets, you’re not like, ‘Hey, we’re not crippling our ability to compete with Herbert in the future because we’re not trading any future year’s draft picks.'”

Don’t expect a deal….BUT

At the end of the day, three bad weeks shouldn’t have the Chargers thinking about a quarterback change – especially when they’ve seen Herbert play elite football.

On the flip side, we can’t ignore the draft assets the Jets have for the 2027 offseason. They’ll have more than enough firepower to make a blockbuster move.

We just don’t expect the Chargers to move on from Herbert when he’s just 28 years old.
