Not many expected the regression the San Francisco 49ers saw in the 2024 season. A 6-11 finish remains a stunner for a team that had Super Bowl aspirations heading into training camp.

Some poor injury luck certainly played a role in their demise, but the team has put those ills in the past and is looking ahead to what should be a busy offseason.

The Niners will presumably work through an extension with quarterback Brock Purdy and may begin shopping Deebo Samuel over the next few weeks. Needless to say the team should experience some major change before training camp this summer.

In the meantime, the team puts a bow on the 2024 season with the new league year set to begin in the next two weeks. One final benchmark of the year is the NFL Players Association report cards made for each of the 32 franchises.

San Francisco impressed with this year's results, coming in at eighth overall with several impressive grades. Their ranking in slotted in as the best among all NFC West teams and the fourth best across the NFC as a whole.

The Niners finished with three A's in the categories of food/dining area, strength coaches and head coach. Food and dining sprung to the top of the league-wide leaderboards, ranking fourth overall.

The latter of the three certainly draws the most attention though as the team had mostly positive feelings in regard to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 97% of players felt he was efficient with their time and described him as moderately receptive to locker room feedback.

As much as this past season tested the patience of players and fans, the same can be said for Shanahan who undeniably stomached some frustrating moments.

The Niners had no grades lower than a B minus with two categories receiving that designation: training room and training staff. Regardless, it is clear the Niners players had mostly positive remarks in regard to the franchise.

San Francisco's players also commended owner Jed York who earned top 10 ranks in contributing to a positive team culture and commitment to building a competitive team.

And that will be York's goal over the next few months with free agency and the NFL Draft looming. The Niners have some fundamental necessities to return to contention, but should be aggressive in pursuing the right pieces to make their squad a winner again.
