No 'Doom & Gloom' Around Bucs For Bowles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have lost five out of their last six games, including four in a row, but there's no shortage of confidence coming from the franchise.

While the Buccaneers' record currently reads 4-6, their last three games have been decided by one score. So while the team is on a four-game losing streak, they haven't gotten blown out, and had a bounce of the ball gone their way, despite their injuries, the Buccaneers would be above .500.

Now, as they head into the bye week, Tampa Bay will see it as an opportunity to get players back healthy and self-scout to see what went right and what didn't in the first 10 games of the year.

But there's no dark cloud hanging over the franchise, and Bowles scoffed at the idea that Tampa Bay has an "easier" schedule after the bye.

“We don't have doom and gloom,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “We lost two tough games, three if you want to count them, but the schedule doesn't get easier, it's the NFL you're not playing anybody that's soft on the schedule. Everybody's got first-round picks, athletes, and everybody's well-coached. So if we come back from the break thinking the schedule's easier, we're going to lose every last game. We got to come back, take care of us, and do the things we need to do to win regardless of opponent. If we want to be one of the good teams, we have to beat the good teams. We knew that coming, but it's never doom and gloom.”

In truth, the Buccaneers have every right to be content with their season's work despite their 4-6 record.

Overtime losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons, plus losing on a game-winning field goal from San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody with seconds left, paint the picture of a team that, despite its injuries, is still doing enough right to be in position to win football games.

Of course, there are no moral victories in the NFL, but Tampa Bay is close enough that there don't need to be wholesale changes during its bye.

One thing is for sure: despite their losing streak, the franchise has been confident about its performance in the first 10 weeks of the season.

Now comes the time to get soldiers back and attack the second half of the year.
