'No signs of slowing down!' Chiefs GM Brett Veach breaks silence on Travis Kelce’s longevity with the Chiefs after he signed a $34 million contract
Briana Sanchez / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Kansas City Chiefs sure knows how to reward its key contributors. First, it was Andy Reid , whom the franchise made the highest-paid head coach and now, the lucrative two-year deal with Travis Kelce has made him the highest-paid tight end in the league.

The star tight end is entering his 12th season with the NFL at the age of 34-year-old. However, given his contributions to the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl victory, the franchise is not worried about his production dropping the standards in the foreseeable future. Hence, the two-year deal is worth a whopping $34 million

While talking on the subject, the Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach finally broke his silence on the lucrative deal to a soon-to-be-turning 35-year-old player. He revealed seeing Kelce in the workouts, he appears to be not more than “28 years old,” and that’s why the team is confident that his production won’t slip away.

The odds of someone playing this far into the thirties are very low, but it does happen, and it happens with just unicorns in the profession, and Travis is one of those and we’ll certainly celebrate this with him and hopefully we can ride this thing even longer . Brett Veach said, in conversation with ESPN’s Adam Teicher
But I've seen no signs of [Kelce] slowing down and everyone notices the kind of postseason he had, and he just found that extra gear and these special ones, these special players are always able to find that extra gear. If anybody could do it, Travis can. Brett Veach added

In his 11-year-old long career, Kelce has made it to nine consecutive Pro Bowls, first-team All-Pro four times, and posted seven straight 1,000-yard seasons as a tight end.

How is Travis Kelce’s lucrative extension beneficial for the Chiefs?

Well, as Dan Orlovsky highlighted signing Kelce in a two-year lucrative deal isn’t just beneficial for him, but also two major effects for the benefit of the Chiefs. First, it works as an inspiration for the young draft picks coming into the league to show how well the franchise rewards, when a player truly contributes.

And on the second part, having the star tight end on the roster gives solid backing to quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the whole offensive line. Given, that the Chiefs possess the weakest-receiving squad last season.

The chemistry Mahomes and Kelce share on the football field works magic for the Chiefs. It gives the elite quarterback a reliable player to catch his passes.
