No Tyreek Hill Signing Imminent

Recent reports indicated that Tyreek Hill was receiving interest from NFL teams and even opening contract negotiations for his next career move.

But public attention has turned towards the abuse allegations set forth in Hill’s civil trial by his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccarro Hill, over the past week. The accusations, especially in the context of Hill’s troubling history of domestic violence, have re-ignited speculation that Hill could face league discipline once his legal process is concluded. That could slow or complicate talks with a new team, though the Chiefs, who seem to be early frontrunners, have been comfortable enough with Hill’s behavior in the past.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, claimed that contract talks with a new team were set to begin in the first week of October. However, no progress has been made with the 32-year-old wideout still weeks (at least) away from returning to an NFL field.

“Nothing is imminent at this time,” Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus said on Thursday (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter). “He’s continuing his rehab with the goal of being on a team in the immediate future.”

Teams were already wary of Hill’s physical shape coming off last year’s brutal knee injury. His production had begun to dip across his final two seasons in Miami, and his signature athleticism has likely taken a hit after two surgeries in the last year. The potential of a suspension based his domestic abuse accusations could give clubs another reason to wait on a Hill signing or look elsewhere entirely.

Rosenhaus’ statements about Hill’s interest from other teams also implied that Hill is looking for more than the standard veteran-minimum contract most players receive when they sign with a new team off the street in the middle of the season. His pedigree – 10 years in the NFL with 90 touchdowns, over 12,000 total yards, eight Pro Bowls, and five first-team All-Pros – would support a stronger deal, but with the trade deadline approaching, clubs might be saving money for a bigger swing.

At present, it still seems like the Chiefs are Hill’s best – and perhaps only – option to play this year. Kansas City has just over $3MM in 2026 cap space, per OverTheCap, though they could certainly structure Hill’s contract to pay him more cash this year and push his cap charges into the future.
