Noah Fant Could Open Up the Dolphins’ Offense

Last year, with teams playing a two-deep shell with their safeties nearly 15 yards off the ball every snap, it opened up many opportunities for Jonnu Smith.

With Smith only having a one-year deal and capitalizing with 88 receptions and eight touchdowns, it was easy to see why he wanted more money.

He earned his money.

Just from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Miami has looked to fill that hole with the acquisition of Darren Waller, there are more questions than answers with the former New York Giant and Las Vegas Raider.

First, Waller has not played in over a year, so while the potential is there for him to be an impact player, who knows what he will be like a year removed from the playing field.

Second, Waller will be 33 at the start of the season and is only on a one-year deal, so he is not really a long-term option for the team.

With the news of them bringing in Noah Fant for a free agent visit, Miami could solve the tight end issue for now and the future.

Fant is only 27 years old and will not turn 28 until around Thanksgiving.

He has also been a productive player in his six years in the league, having over 400 receiving yards in each season.

Along with having a catch rate over 75 percent in his last four seasons, Fant is also an explosive receiver with over 10 yards per catch in four of those seasons as well.

Fant and Waller could play together in the offense as Fant could be more of an in-line blocker while Waller is flexed out.

Miami could also play some unique “13” personnel packages with De’von Achane, Pharoah Brown, Noah Fant, Tyreek Hill, and Darren Waller.

Waller, in that package, would serve as a pseudo receiver and would force teams to play lighter in the box with the threat of him and Hill.

With a lighter box and more defensive backs on the field, Miami could then swap out Achane with Jaylen Wright or even keep Achane, and punish teams with the run game with Brown and Fant.

An addition of Fant could really open up this offense.

Chris Grier should add the talented tight end to the fold.
