However, despite an overall successful approach, one decision raised concerns from an ESPN analyst: the re-signing of wide receiver Tutu Atwell for $10 million fully guaranteed.

The franchise remains focused on surrounding quarterback Matthew Stafford with elite talent, highlighted by the acquisition of Davante Adams and the retention of left tackle Alaric Jackson. Adams, signed to a two-year deal, adds immediate firepower to an offense already featuring Puka Nacua.

Yet, the decision to prioritize Atwell, who has underwhelmed with 1,343 receiving yards and four touchdowns over four seasons, drew skepticism, especially considering his limited role in the offense. Analysts questioned the value of Atwell’s contract, particularly when compared to more consistent options like Demarcus Robinson, who departed in free agency.

Robinson’s higher yards-per-catch average and playoff experience presented a compelling case for retention. Critics argued that Los Angeles could have allocated funds more effectively, either by targeting a cheaper veteran or drafting a younger receiver with similar attributes.

Not everything was perfect, though. The Rams signed Atwell to a one-year, $10 million deal that had me wondering: Who was clamoring to pay him $9 million?

Additionally, restructuring Stafford’s contract ensured stability at the game’s most important position while maintaining salary cap flexibility.

Ultimately, Los Angeles’ offseason exemplified a calculated push to remain competitive in the NFC. While the Atwell deal raised eyebrows, the overall strategy reinforced their commitment to maximizing Stafford’s window. With a retooled roster and high expectations, the Rams are poised to contend for a deep playoff run in 2025.
