ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported on Monday that the New York Giants are unlikely to deal tight end Evan Engram before the trade deadline on Nov. 3.
The Giants generated headlines on Friday when they traded linebacker Markus Golden to the Arizona Cardinals for a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft less than 24 hours after they squandered an 11-point lead and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles to fall to 1-6 in what's become a disappointing season. After that defeat, head coach Joe Judge told reporters to expect "a string of moves" before the deadline's arrival.
However, Raanan wrote that the Giants view Engram, a first-round selection from the 2017 NFL Draft, as part of Big Blue's future and want to keep him linked with quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones and the Giants lost running back Saquon Barkley to injury in the second game of the season.
Engram is signed through next season but has largely underwhelmed since he tallied 64 catches and six receiving touchdowns, all career highs, as a rookie. It's thought a coaching staff for a contending team may believe the 26-year-old could flourish with a change of scenery and while playing alongside better talent. Add in that the Giants are likely to be sellers over the next week before a "Monday Night Football" showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and trade rumors involving Engram make sense.
Engram became a goat among Giants fans when he dropped a catchable pass late in Thursday's contest that, otherwise, likely would've iced Big Blue's second victory of the season at a time when no NFC East team has a winning record ahead of Halloween. He has 26 catches for 223 yards with one rushing touchdown, his only score of the season, this season.
