Oklahoma Sooners finally send offer to local legacy product whose family has already set records

If you're an established veteran fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and recruiting, you're aware that there's a section of the OU fanbase that still slightly laments that they didn't offer former Norman, Oklahoma star Charlie Kolar.

Kolar, a former three-star tight end, attended Norman North High School just up the road from the University of Oklahoma. Many local fans thought he was an underrated recruit who just seemingly kept finding ways to make plays on film.

However, Oklahoma didn't recruit him. He didn't even receive an offer from the Sooners back in 2017. Instead, Kolar turned to a different Big 12 school, joining his brother John at Iowa State.

Kolar made the Sooners pay over the years, reeling in 24 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns against Oklahoma in his career, culminating in a 37-30 win over the Sooners in 2020. Kolar was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens after an All-Big 12 career that set school records with the Cyclones.

However, this Oklahoma staff isn't aiming to make the same mistake with another member of the Kolar family. They extended an offer to the younger brother of Charlie Kolar, Ben, on Friday.

Ben is a member of the 2027 recruiting class and is one of the Sooners' first offers at the tight end position. Kolar hasn't qualified for a ranking on 247Sports, but his offer sheet is intriguing, and Oklahoma's offer will undoubtedly be one of several strong P4 offers he'll receive in his process.

Miami offered Kolar back in May, and Ole Miss offered him last week as well. His process is picking up steam, and this could be a tough fight for the Sooners as this goes on.

It will be interesting to see how or if Charlie Kolar's recruitment (or lack thereof) will impact Ben Kolar's opinion on Oklahoma. Will it be a negative that he uses against the Sooners, or will it be a moment of pride that he accomplished something his brother didn't? I'll be curious to find out, but it sounds like Kolar isn't in a rush in this process.
