One player went from hero to villain for the Commanders after crucial mistake in loss to Bears

The turnover shifted the game dramatically, and woke up the offense and the defense, which led to the Commanders getting their first road win of the season. The Commanders needed a stop with the Bears getting the ball down eight points, but instead, they let them bring life back into the game.

Quan Martin's critical error

The Bears only had the ball for a minute, but that's all it took for them to have another explosive play that went for a touchdown. It was third and four, and the defense just had to get one more stop, but instead, D'Andre Swift caught a five-yard pass and took it to the house for 55 yards because Quan Martin couldn't make the tackle to get him out of bounds.

Martin got stuck in traffic, which has been a common theme for the secondary all season, and arrived late to the play, just to get shrugged off on his tackle attempt. This play brought the Bears back into a game that felt like it was just about over for them.

Dan Quinn was asked about the play after the game, and he said that's a play they expect Martin to make.

"Yeah, he had a man-to-man blitz," Quinn said. "So, we know [Swift] is elusive, a good player, and so he used the sideline to try to get it. So yeah, it's an unfortunate one. [Martin] is somebody that we'd absolutely count on in that spot and also give credit to Swift, but yeah, just one-on-one matchup and you know, one that we would count on him plenty of times to do that.”
