Kirk Cousins' days with the Atlanta Falcons are over. Not even reuniting with Kevin Stefanski, his former offensive coordinator, was enough to give him an opportunity.
Now, with most quarterback-needy teams already filling their positions, the former Minnesota Vikings star is running out of options, at least to be a starter.
That's why, as things stand now, he needs to prioritize being on the field come Week 1, and that means joining a team that will either have a rookie quarterback or needs a place-holder for an injured quarterback.
The Kansas City Chiefs have already traded for Justin Fields, and that leaves Cousins with one obvious choice: the Las Vegas Raiders.
Raiders GM John Spytek already said that he'd rather have a veteran take the reins of the offense while projected No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza sits and learns.
They will obviously commit to their young star and will have him take the field when he's ready, so this would be a short-term move for Cousins, but it might be the only way to prove that he's still got it.
If he plays well until the Raiders are ready to turn things over to Mendoza, he could then be traded, perhaps to a playoff-caliber team looking to keep its postseason hopes alive after losing its starter to injury.
Also, other teams will be in the market for a quarterback in 2027, and being willing to mentor a younger signal-caller can help his case for a new gig.
Cousins can still play, provided he's in the right system. And with all the money he's made in his career, that shouldn't be an issue for him at this point. This would be the best way to bet on himself and prove that he's still got it.
