Packers' Aaron Rodgers 'might be more trouble than he’s worth' for Jets, Raiders

Some around the NFL clearly believe neither the New York Jets nor Las Vegas Raiders should go all-in on trading for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. 

NBC Sports' Peter King mentioned in Monday's "Football Morning in America" column what he'd heard about Rodgers from individuals in Arizona before and during Super Bowl LVII.

"Rodgers starts what he called a four-day darkness period in the pitch dark of a home, alone, today, and there was eyebrow-raising among a few league or team people I brought this up with, the reaction being: I can see why the Packers would consider trading him. Seems like a good person, but he might be more trouble than he’s worth," King wrote. 

Rodgers has generated headlines such as misleading the public about his COVID-19 vaccination status, his use of a psychedelic tea during offseasons, and alleged conversations with teammates about conspiracy theories, among other things. 

Additionally, some may say there were signs during the 2022 season that the 39-year-old is no longer physically the same elite signal-caller who has earned regular-season Most Valuable Player honors on four occasions. 

Per ESPN stats, Rodgers ended the campaign 26th among qualified players with a 39.3 total QBR, and only six quarterbacks threw more interceptions than Rodgers' 12. Of course, it's also worth noting the veteran dealt with a broken thumb on his throwing hand and a rib injury this past fall. 

Rodgers has ties to both the Jets and the Raiders. New York offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett previously coached Rodgers when Hackett held the same job with the Packers, and it's been said that Rodgers has a good relationship with current Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. The Raiders, meanwhile, have All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, Rodgers' former Green Bay teammate, on their roster. 

Multiple in-the-know individuals said before King's update that the Jets should target Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers in free agency, especially if it's true that the Packers will want at least two first-round draft picks and other compensation for Rodgers. 

However, it was reported on Sunday that the Jets have inquired with the Packers about Rodgers' availability.
