Packers Activate RB Josh Jacobs, DT Jordon Riley
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

As expected , Josh Jacobs will be able to make his season debut this week. The Packers have officially activated him from the commissioner’s exempt list.

Jacobs was among the players essentially placed on paid leave just before the start of the campaign. He remained unavailable to practice or play for Green Bay through the first six weeks of the season as a result. The Pro Bowl back was removed from the list on Monday, though, paving the way for today’s news.

A plea of no contest to misdemeanor charges brought about an end to Jacobs’ criminal case, one which stemmed from an incident with his then-girlfriend in May. The NFL’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, and it remains to be seen if a fine and/or suspension will be issued. The time Jacobs spent on the exempt list would count toward any ban handed down in this case.

“I think six games was a lot, honestly, but that’s not really up to me to decide,” the 28-year-old said (via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky) during his first public remarks of the season. “I’m grateful to be playing, so that’s not even something that I’m like arguing or petitioning with. I’m just happy to be back on the team.

“I’m remorseful and sorry for putting this team in this situation,” Jacobs added. “Sometimes when you go through life, situations occur and a four-second, three-second decision can alter your life, honestly. But with that being said, still a human being, man, still trying to learn, still trying to grow from the whole process.”

Getting Jacobs back in the fold will offer a boost to Green Bay’s offense. The team currently ranks last in rushing yards per game, and improvement in that regard would be key moving forward. The 4-2 Packers will play the Lions tomorrow with plenty at stake given the competitiveness of the NFC North.

Green Bay will also have Jordon Riley available for Week 7. The fourth-year defensive tackle was moved to the reserve/PUP list during roster cuts. That guaranteed at least a four-game absence to begin the season, but Riley had his practice window opened last week. With plenty of time to spare regarding his 21-day activation window, the former seventh-rounder is now in the fold.

In other Saturday moves, the Packers have signed receiver Coleman Owen from the practice squad to the active roster. Edge rusher Arron Mosby has been elevated for Week 7, meaning he too will be able to dress against Detroit tomorrow.
