The Packers are off to rough start in the 2026 NFL season. Currently sitting at 1-2 and in 4th in the NFC North, it’s clear that the biggest issue within the team is the state of the offensive line. The Packers did address the offensive line with some new additions within the last week. Let’s analyze.
It was clear to most, except the front office, that entering the season with such an inexperienced offensive line was likely not a recipe for success. Green Bay learned quickly that their offensive line is probably one of the worst in the league.
As long as most can remember, the Packers have always had a solid line up front. The recipe for drafting and developing worked for so long. It’s evident that the current formula is not up to par, as the Packers offensive line performance has been shaky for years now.
So, just how bad has the offensive line been this year? Well, Jordan Love is averaging just 2.49 seconds to throw. That’s the worst in the league. Oftentimes, the play hasn’t even developed before Love is either already on the ground or he’s thrown it away.
Pro Football Focus highlighted that Love has been under pressure on 59 drop backs. During those drop backs, he’s completed only 18 of 50 passes, making that completion percentage a whopping 36%.
Love has also thrown zero touchdowns and two interceptions on those drop backs. Since becoming the starting quarterback for the Packers, the most hits Love has taken in a season is 49. This year he has already been hit 20 times.
The organization has recognized the problem, but are the signings enough? On Monday, the Packers signed veteran guards Mekhi Becton and Laken Tomlinson.
Becton’s career so far has been rocky, but his time spent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 changed his career. Becton was moved to right guard for Philadelphia and helped propel them to the Super Bowl. Last year with the chargers, Becton started in 14 games and played in 15.
Becton is 6’7 and weighs in at 357 pounds. He will automatically be an impactful signing for pass protection and in the run game too. Laken Tomlinson has started 162 games in his career so far.
Tomlinson will likely operate at left guard where he will replace Donovan Jennings who is currently starting for an injured Aaron Banks, a signing that continues to disappoint.
The Packers weren’t done there. On Wednesday, the Packers signed Kevin Zeitler which has arguably been the best addition yet. Zeitler’s resume is impressive. Between 2015 and 2025, Zeitler has never started less than 15 games.
Zeitler started in 16 games last season with the Lions and will likely be the immediate upgrade at right guard to replace Jacob Monk. His experience and desire to continue playing, even at the age of 36, will hopefully bring valuable teaching techniques to the younger guys.

So, while Brain Gutekunst made a major error rolling into the season with such an inexperienced line, he has definitely improved the situation. How much will this help Jordan Love? How much will this help the run game? We’ll get a good glimpse of it on Sunday.
Matt LaFleur stated Thursday that the new additions are not learning the totality of the offense as they are just getting the game plan and trying to master that quickly. That makes it pretty clear that we will see a new, and hopefully improved, offensive line for Green Bay on Sunday in Tampa.
