The Green Bay Packers’ cornerback room is in something of a flux entering the final week of preseason action. Two players have been linked in trade rumors, potentially featuring the next tandem up as the two starters for the 2026 NFL season.

Keisean Nixon was widely expected to fill the CB1 void coming off a turbulent 2025 campaign, but has been challenged for the lead role by players like Carrington Valentine, Brandon Cisse and Benjamin St-Juste. Valentine, like Nixon, has garnered trade attention as the regular season approaches, while the latter pair have carved out notable first-team reps despite minor injuries.

Green Bay’s front office could look to shore up the group in a big way prior to the start of the season, with Pittsburgh Steelers star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. making the rounds in trade rumors. Porter is in the midst of tumultuous contract negotiations with Pittsburgh’s front office, raising chatter surrounding the situation.

The proposed deal sends Porter to the Packers for Valentine and Green Bay’s second selection in a highly touted 2027 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh would likely prefer to keep Porter, but if the team is unable to reach an agreement, the star corner could request a trade.

The Steelers have reportedly called about Valentine during the preseason and could add the 24-year-old in a potential deal for Porter.

Porter broke out in 2025 with a massive campaign, emerging as one of the top cornerbacks in football despite missing three games. He racked up 52 total tackles, 14 pass deflections, one sack, and one interception.

Green Bay has the cap space to work out an extension with Porter upon a potential trade, which could serve the team’s benefit in monitoring potential suitors. He’d present a seamless fit to a stellar secondary and could fill the CB1 spot over the long term.
