Packers DC is lining up head coach interviews

The Green Bay Packers are preparing for their Wild Card game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday at Soldier Field.

But, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is also lining up plenty of head coach interviews. As of Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans have all submitted requests to interview the Packers’ DC, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

With the Packers playing on Saturday, Hafley won’t be able to interview this week.

Before coming to Green Bay, Hafley spent four seasons as the Boston College head coach and compiled a 22-26 record.

Hafley was a defensive backs coach in the NFL before that, including stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but leaving a Power 5 head coaching job for a DC job is a bit of a surprise.

The Packers’ defense this season is in the top-12 in passing yards and points, but 28th in interceptions and 21st in sacks.

On Wednesday, Hafley said it is “extremely flattering and very humbling” to see his name involved in head coach discussions, although he is focused on the Wild Card game.
