Packers Fill Last Roster Spot with Former SEC Pass Rusher

The Green Bay Packers have set their 90-man offseason roster. One of the players on it is the unofficial mayor of Door County, running back AJ Dillon. The last roster space has been awarded to the unofficial mayor of Starkville, Mississippi, Kobe Jones. Jones was one of the 18 players that the Packers hosted for tryouts during their rookie minicamp. This group included UW-Whitewater wide receiver Ryan Risniewski. Jones played his college ball at Mississippi State University, where he was a teammate of current Packers running back Kylin Hill.

Kobe Jones played at Mississippi State for four seasons from 2017-2020. His best season was his junior year in 2019. That season, he had 30 total tackles, which included seven tackles for loss. He also had four sacks. In 2020, his senior season, Jones had 32 total tackles (four of them for loss) and two sacks.

During his time at Mississippi State, which is located in Starkville, Mississippi, Kobe Jones became known as “The Mayor of Starkville.” He earned this title as one of the city’s most beloved citizens. A product of the city in which he attended college, he spent much of his free time volunteering with the same youth football program he participated in as a kid.

Post-College Career

Kobe Jones went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Atlanta Falcons signed Jones after the draft. However, he failed to make their roster and was cut. In November of last year, he spent two weeks on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. When the 2021 NFL season ended, he signed a futures deal with the Tennessee Titans.
