The Green Bay Packers announced on Wednesday the addition of 15 new coaches to the staff as part of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. They will work with the team between May and June as part of an effort to give them coaching experience.

Two of the coaches have a huge history with the organization: former safeties Nick Collins and Morgan Burnett.

The other defensive coaches are former NFL defensive lineman Jason Hatcher (Dallas and Washington), Asa Jackson (Cal Poly), Josh Jones (San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL), Larry Knight (Arkansas State), and Shea Pitts (UCLA). The offensive coaching staff will have Ryan Alexander (LSU), Jeff Beckles, Mike Brown (Notre Dame), Caleb Moore (Arizona), and Grant Newsome (Michigan).

Ike Brown (LSU), Leo Liu (Washington University in St. Louis), and Gary Wilkins will assist the strength and conditioning staff.

Over the past few years, the Packers used this tool to find full-time coaches. Anthony Perkins, Myles White, Cory Harkey, and Jeremiah Kolone eventually transformed the temporary opportunity into full-time roles on the coaching staff.

The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship is designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches. The program's objective is to use NFL clubs' offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.

History

Nick Collins is 41 and played seven seasons in the NFL, all of them for the Green Bay Packers between 2005 and 2011, after being a second-round pick. He made the Second-Team All-Pro three times and had a pick-six in Super Bowl XLV, when the Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Collins retired after the 2011 season after suffering a career-ending neck injury.

Morgan Burnett was a third-round pick in 2010 and also was a part of the Super Bowl-winning roster. He played in Green Bay through 2017, and also had playing experiences with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018 and the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He officially announced his retirement in 2021.
