Extending Zach Tom should be among the top priorities for the Green Bay Packers this offseason. Since taking over as the starting right tackle, the former fourth-round pick has been one of the best and most reliable offensive pieces on the roster. And after finishing up his third NFL season, Tom is already eligible to receive a new contract.
The more the Packers wait, the more expensive it will probably get . So general manager Brian Gutekunst is already working to make that happen.
"We're always competing, no matter who you are, what your contract status is. But I will say now, we've had really healthy conversations with Zach about locking him up," Gutekunst told Cheesehead TV. "And certainly that's something we'd like to do."
According to Spotrac, Tom is projected to earn a four-year, $86.71 million extension — a yearly average of $21.7 million. Nobody knows when the extension will be finalized, but both sides are working on it.
"These things take time, as you know, and they never happen very quickly," Gutekunst added. "But confident. Obviously, he's been a really good player for us since the time he got here, done everything right by us, and we'd certainly like to make that happen. So hopefully we'll get there soon."
Zach Tom played at an extremely high level in 2024. He allowed only 24 pressures all season, and was the third right tackle in All-Pro voting, just behind Detroit Lions' Penei Sewell and Philadelphia Eagles' Lane Johnson.
The Packers' two starting tackles are entering contract seasons, Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker. Right guard Sean Rhyan is as well. The other two starters are already high-priced players, recently-signed left guard Aaron Banks and center Elgton Jenkins, who wants a contract adjustment.
Over the past two years, the Packers drafted two tackle/guard hybrids with top picks. In 2024, the team took Jordan Morgan in the first round. This year, it selected Anthony Belton in the second.
