Packers hiring Aaron Rodgers favorite as QB coach
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers appear to be trying to appeal to Aaron Rodgers with their latest hire.

The Packers have reached a verbal agreement with Tom Clements to become the team’s quarterbacks coach, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Clements was a part of Green Bay’s offensive staff from 2006 to 2016, guiding Rodgers as quarterbacks coach during six of his first seven NFL seasons. Rodgers still frequently cites Clements’ teachings when discussing his performances.

Clements had most recently served as Arizona’s quarterbacks coach, but retired following the 2020 season.

The Clements hire is clearly meant to entice Rodgers as the Packers try to talk him into returning in 2022. The quarterback has improved his relationship with the team, which is fueling optimism that Rodgers will return. The Packers are also willing to go all-out to keep the quarterback in the fold. This could be considered a part of that effort.
