Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is among the biggest winners across the NFL this offseason.
Thanks to Green Bay’s 11th-hour blockbuster trade to acquire All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys, less than two weeks from the Packers’ season opener against the Detroit Lions, Hafley has now landed one of the game’s premier pass rushers to add to a defense that includes an All-Pro safety and one of the rising young linebackers across the league.
Sunday, Hafley has the chance to turn his new pass rusher loose, and let the 26-year-old star wreak havoc in ways only his scheme managed to last season.
While Green Bay’s defense made major strides last season, the Packers finished eigth in the NFL with 46 sacks, but Rashan Gary led the team with just 7.5.
It was Hafley’s system that created the pressure, but that could be about to change, in a big way.
“You just turn on his pressure tape, the guy can win…here’s what’s amazing about the guy,” Hafley told reporters. “The guy can win with speed, the guy can win by going through a tackle, the guy can win coming inside and win fast, the guy has won on guards, he’s won on centers, he’s won as a standup linebacker. So, just turn on the highlight film. It’s fun.”
“I’m excited that he’s here,” Hafley said. “I’m excited for our players. I’m excited for our whole team right now.”
