Packers Make Final Call on $5.8 Million Running Back

The Green Bay Packers aren’t ready to write off second-year running back Marshawn Lloyd’s 2025 season juset yet.

As the Packers made cuts to get down to the initial 53-man roster for the upcoming season, Green Bay placed Lloyd on injured reserve with a designation to return, tying up one of the team’s two short-term injured reserve slots.

Marshawn Lloyd’s Rough Start to Packers Career Continues

Lloyd, originally chosen by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft has navigated myriad injuries through his first two seasons and his struggles to get and stay on the field continued this summer.

After his rookie season was limited to just six carries by ankle, hip, and hamstring injuries before undergoing an appendectomy, Lloyd suffered yet another hamstring injury during training camp that kept him off the field this summer and now ultimately lands him on injured reserve.

Thanks to his short-term injured reserve designation, Lloyd will be eligible to return after sitting out for four weeks. The Packers can open a 21-day practice window to determine whether he is healthy enough to return, and if he is not, he’ll automatically revert to the full-season injured reserve.

Lloyd is entering the second year of his $5.8 million rookie contract and will look to make an impact on the offense if he’s able to return.

Originally chosen by the Packers with the No. 88 overall pick in the 2024 draft, Lloyd rushed for 1,621 yards with 19 touchdowns across three seasons at South Carolina and USC, but his NFL career has yet to have the chance to get going.
