Packers Make Modern NFL History With Playoff Berth
Wm. Glasheen/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2023 season was a roller coaster ride for the Green Bay Packers. Entering the season with the youngest roster in the NFL, they knew there would be some bumps in the road but they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

There were certainly some peaks and valleys along the way as the team struggled at times. Luckily for the Packers, they were able to send the regular season on one of those upswings and push their way into the postseason.

The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 17-9 on Sunday afternoon in Week 18, their third victory in a row. It pushed their record to 9-8 on the season, sneaking into the last Wild Card spot and visiting the Dallas Cowboys for Super Wild Card Weekend.

It has been an impressive stretch for Green Bay, who has been without key contributors during their most recent winning streak. The wide receiver position has been ravaged by injuries with Christian Watson missing his second chunk of games because of a hamstring injury. At the same time, Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed also missed games.

That hasn’t slowed down the Packers, who scored 33 points against the Carolina Panthers in Week 16 and Week 17 against the Minnesota Vikings to give themselves a chance at the postseason. They capitalized at Lambeau Field in Week 18, something they were unable to do to conclude the 2022 season.

With their playoff spot secured, this year’s Packers team made some history. According to StatMuse on X, formerly Twitter, they are the youngest team to make the playoffs since the NFL expanded their regular season schedule to 16 games in 1978.

This is quite an accomplishment for Matt LaFleur, his staff and the organization as a whole. They took a major risk in the offseason by trading away future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers and revamping parts of the roster in a youth movement.

It ended up paying off as Jordan Love looks like a legitimate franchise quarterback moving forward. There are building blocks all over this roster as the Packers are a team on the rise in the NFC.
