Green Bay Packers' head coach Matt LaFleur has caught his share of criticism in recent seasons—whether for his team falling short in critical moments or for perceived softness in physical matchups. However, it is undeniable that LaFleur is one of the premier offensive minds and most successful head coaches in the NFL today.
LaFleur took over as Green Bay's head coach in 2019. He led the Packers to three consecutive 13-win seasons, securing the number one seed twice despite ongoing power struggles between Aaron Rodgers and the front office. In 2023 and 2024, LaFleur led the youngest roster in the NFL to back-to-back postseason appearances, including a 48-32 wild card road victory over the No. 2 seeded Dallas Cowboys—becoming the first-ever No. 7 seed to win a playoff game.
The 2025 season could be a big year for Matt LaFleur personally. He is just five career wins away from passing Don Shula for the most wins by a head coach in their first seven seasons. During his appearance on the Wednesday, May 21st edition of the Up & Adams Show, LaFleur discussed the possibility of achieving such a historic feat.
“Well, I think we play more games nowadays, too, so,” LaFleur said. “No, he’s a legend. Obviously, I know his grandson, Chris, pretty well, and I’ve got a lot of respect for that entire family.”

The Packers' head coach also emphasized that he is not taking sole credit for the milestone.
“But, you know, it’s a credit to everybody," LaFleur noted. "It always is. We’ve had great players, great coaches, and a great organization, so. And the expectation is you better win here.”
Fans and the media often say that postseason success for the Packers is long overdue, and while that is true, it is important to acknowledge that Green Bay has been closer to winning a title than most NFL teams. However, it is time for the Packers to jump from a good team into a great one, and the 2025 season should be pivotal for everyone in the organization.
